Work-It-Easy – Teacher Training Institution PHL, Hasselt, Belgium

　　Work-it-easy is a virtual practice firm which sells design and ergonomic office furniture. You start a virtual practice firm by creating a simulated firm. The students are given the role of active employees who generate a fictional money and goods stream, but the documents are real. The students process orders, make invoices, organise promotion events, answer the correspondence, do the accounts, and they are responsible for the financial aspects of the business. Every student is appraised and then appointed to an apt job or function.

　　The department of education at PHL is the only certified practice firm within any Teacher Training Institution, within Flanders. Work-it-easy prepares the students of Commerce & Burotics for a future practice firm. Within “Work-it-Easy” the students learn how to coach pupils and how to decide on the best way to organize the work sessions.

　　Moreover, Work-it-easy annually organizes the Viro@PHL trade fair in which 25 practice firms from all over Limburg come together to sell and buy goods. This fair is a big success because it gives the students the chance to develop their marketing & communication skills, in a safe economic environment. This year, practice firms in accountancy and computer engineering will be invited to attend. This will give them the opportunity to market their services and to offer accountancy and computer engineering services to the network.

　　What’s more, Work-it-easy participates every year successfully in the Global Business Challenge and the New York City Trade Fair. During the New York trade fair the students have their own stand/booth. Their goal is to trade with practice firms from all over the world.

　　The PHL-students also participate in the “Global Business Challenge” which is a competition organised by Merrill Lynch. During this event the students are given a chance to work with other students from all over the globe. The students are divided into teams, which have to develop a business plan, research the opportunities and risks, and present their findings to a jury of professionals. This jury will assess the professionalism and effectiveness of the proposal. Furthermore language skills, the ability to work as a team, creativity and business knowledge are also assessed in this competition. Our PHL students have for the last three years succeeded in winning the competition.
